In the high season which is from 18JUN to 31 August tickets should be brought way in advance to take advantage of the specials which are offered by the airline…never wait till the last minute otherwise first you won’t find seats and 2 the prices are higher. From Sep01-28Oct which is shoulder season in the industry the fare are a little less than high season fares, and If you wannna travel in Low season that will be from Nov01—30Mar not including the christmas season when prices tend to be higher for that period.
There is no definitive rule. However, you will usually save by buying tickets in advance. Discount fares usually have advance purchase requirements and airlines limit the number of cheap seats per flight. If you buy too close to departure, you won’t qualify for the advance purchase discounts. And, the people who book early will have taken all of the discount seats so you’ll pay more.
Is it possible that fares will be lower closer to departure? Yes. If a flight is selling poorly, the airline may reduce prices to stimulate demand. However, you can’t count on it. In the era of $125 oil, airlines are aggressively trying to raise prices, not reduce them.
By the way, you’ll see advice on this website that it’s cheaper to book on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. That’s wrong. It’s often cheaper to fly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on domestic routes – not purchase the tickets. Airlines don’t cut the fares just for buying on certain days of the week. That would be incredibly stupid. Everyone would simply wait for the cheap days and no one would buy tickets the rest of the week. Airlines revenues would plummet.

Yes they are! But you have to check every day to find low prices.

You should always book like a month before the trip. If you’re doing last minute flying.. book they day you are planning to leave.
